Start before you feel ready
Confidence is not the signal to begin. Beginning is what builds the signal.
Most of us have it backwards. We wait for the feeling of being ready — calm, sure, certain — and we plan to act the moment it arrives. But that feeling almost never arrives first. It follows action the way a shadow follows a person.
Think back to anything you are good at today. The first version of you was nervous, clumsy, and full of doubt. You did not wait to feel capable. You did the clumsy thing, then a slightly less clumsy thing, and confidence quietly filled in behind you.
“You do not find confidence first. You earn it on the way.”
So the practice is small: pick the smallest possible start. Not get fit — walk for ten minutes. Not write the book — write one honest paragraph. The small step counts more than the grand plan, because the small step is the one you will actually take.
And here is the part nobody says: you are allowed to begin badly. Beginners are not fakes. They are the only people ever in motion. Ready is a rumor. Starting is a decision.
